The Benefit of drinking Matcha

Top-grade Japanese ceremonial powdered green tea

Matcha, otherwise known as Tencha, translates to Heaven Tea. Matcha is a powdered green tea leaf known as Gyokuro –a top-grade tea. Served primarily in Japanese Ceremony (cha-no-yu), Matcha is considered the most direct way to experience the utmost nutrients green tea has to offer. During the drying process all the leaf veins and fine stems are removed before the leaves are ground into a fine powder. The leaf is consumed in its entirety, allowing the drinker to experience the finest health-rich qualities the tea plant has to offer.

The benefits of drinking Sencha

A simply elegant emerald green leaf tea. Considered to be the most popular Japanese green tea.

Consisting of only young large and small cuttings of green tea leaves, its deep, pure green tea flavor is the paragon of traditional Japanese green tea. Sencha offers a rich vegetal flavor, with a slightly sweet finish.

Abundant in Vitamins C and E, and Catechin, Sencha is laden with health benefits. Tea leaves (Camillia sinensis) contain a unique amino acid that produces a tranquilizing effects in the brain. This chemical is known as  L-Theanine.

N-ethyl-L-glutamine; (2S)-2-ammonio-5-(ethylamino)-5-oxopentanoate.

Its found almost exclusively in green tea and plays a preventative role in cancer and supports the cardiovascular system. It is known to promote relaxation without sedation, as well as naturally helps reduce stress at standard dosages. An EEG on the effects of L-Theanine on  the brain can actually be visualized! Extensive research has shown L-Theanine’s main characteristics include (but not limited to):

  • Promoting relaxation without causing drowsiness
  • Support healthy sleep patterns
  • Improving learning and concentration
  • Heightening mental acuity
  • Supporting the Immune System
  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Weight control
  • Reducing cardiovascular risks
  • Long-term neuroprotection

NOTE: 3-4 cups of Sencha are expected to contain 100-200mg of Theamine. So it is recommended to drink at least 3 cups or more per day to truly enjoy the health properties of L-Theanine in Sencha tea.

The benefit for drinking Kuki-Hojicha

Pan fire roasted caffeine-free stem and leaf tea. The browned leaves are imbued with a savory fragrance. A great nighttime tea.

Same ingredients as Kukicha but caffeine-free, withered and pan fire roasted. Since it is fired at hight temperatures the kukicha alters the leaf color tints from green to reddish brown. It is less astringent due to this process and loses the benefits of a standard green tea.

In addition to the fresh nutty flavor produced by the roasting process, the resulting decaffeination from the extensive roasting time makes Kuki Houji perfect for children and all who are very sensitive to caffeine.
